Chloride
Chloride reagents are used to determine chloride levels. When chloride is mixed with a mercuric thiocyanate solution, the chloride combines with the mercury to form mercuric chloride. The thiocyanate that is released then combines with ferric ions in the reagent to form ferric thiocyanate. The concentration of the ferric thiocyanate is proportional to the original chloride concentration. The ferric thiocyanate can be measured spectrophotometrically.
